About HOAs in Maine
Maine community associations are governed by the Maine Condominium Act (33 M.R.S. §§1601-101 et seq.) for condominiums created on or after January 1, 1983, and by general nonprofit corporation law for HOAs. The Condominium Act sets detailed requirements around the declaration, bylaws, unit-owner meetings, board elections, and access to records. Each Maine association also adopts its own rules and amendments.
