About HOAs in Alabama
Alabama community associations are governed by the Alabama Uniform Condominium Act (Ala. Code §§35-8A-101 et seq.) for condominiums created on or after January 1, 1991, and by general nonprofit corporation law for HOAs and property owners' associations. State law sets a baseline for the declaration, bylaws, unit-owner meetings, board elections, and access to records. Each Alabama association also adopts its own rules and amendments.
